The Prevention Coordinator oversees the Huron County Prevention Coalition and works closely with community organizations to assess needs, identify solutions, implement identified prevention programming, and administer evaluative processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with schools, social services agencies, faith-based organizations, civic organizations, probation, youth, parents, and families to increase prevention strategies aimed at reducing mental health and substance use instances and increasing resiliency in youth.
Perform ongoing assessment of needs as it relates to prevention in Huron County, including administering OHYES! survey annually, annual needs assessment of schools, and other assessments.
Participate in health fairs and community events for the purpose of providing prevention messaging and education.
Oversee the Huron County Prevention Coalition, including organizing and running meetings, creating agendas, increasing engagement, meeting the goals and objectives identified in Strategic Plan, etc.
Manage outreach and community engagement through various outlets including social media, newsletters, and other outlets to provide prevention messaging and education monthly.
Implement identified prevention programming in Huron County, including providing trainings, creating curriculum, assessing success of the program, and addressing challenges.
Provide prevention trainings as needed to community partners, youth, parents, families, and the community.
Attend trainings, seminars, workshops, and classes to achieve required credentials and continuing education as required by the agency.
Makes referrals to other social service programs and/or agencies when appropriate.
Meet program deadlines.
Create and maintain coalition and community partnerships-Strengthen relationships with current coalition members and build relationships with community partners to expand education and awareness of prevention and the coalitions goals and objectives.
Increase participation and membership of the coalition- regularly seek feedback from coalition in decision making, increase opportunities for team building to create buy-in and increase membership Assess community needs and resources regularly- Analyze gaps in prevention and establish goals to implement necessary and feasible solutions.
Follow objectives of coalition as outlined in the Strategic Plan-The Strategic Plan will help serve as an outline of the job responsibilities on a daily basis.
Build leadership within the coalition-Establish leaders within the coalition who are willing to commit to attending meetings, be involved in discussions, help drive decisions, help build bridges between the coalition and schools/community, and lead conversations.
Seek out and write grant applications for funding upon receiving approval from supervisor-Actively seek funding opportunities to help build the coalition and that align with project goals.
Evaluate initiatives quarterly-Create and present quarterly reports on the successes, challenges, and opportunities experienced with the core coalition team.
Sustain and enhance coalition projects and initiatives-Meet regularly (weekly/bi-monthly) and collaborate with schools, agencies, faith-based organizations, civic organizations, probation, youth, parents, and families to increase prevention strategies aimed at reducing mental health and substance use instances and increasing resiliency in youth.
Provide information--Educational presentations, workshops or seminars and data or media presentations on a bi-monthly basis (e.
g.
, public service announcements, brochures, billboard campaigns, community meetings, town halls, forums, Web-based communication).
Promote workshops, seminars or activities designed to increase the skills of coalition members and community members (e.
g.
, training, technical assistance, distance learning, strategic planning retreats, parenting classes, etc.
).
Reach out to established prevention coalitions throughout the state to learn about what they are doing, best practices, etc.
Create policies and procedures for the Prevention Coalition; utilize connections with other prevention coalitions and organizations to obtain copies of their policies and procedures.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio's driver's license and auto insurance in accordance with ORC 4509.
Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
